Education is Power: 11th Annual BSA High School Conference

The Black Students’ Association at the University of Toronto invites you to its 11th Annual High School Conference entitled Education is Power. This year’s conference will take place on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus.

In our commitment to education and empowerment our primary goal is to support students aspiring to post-secondary education. In order to achieve this goal, it is essential that we educate students in the high schools of Toronto about the benefits that arise out of the pursuit of post-secondary education. By providing the opportunity for students to learn from leaders and role models within our community, we hope to ignite the spark of motivation. The High School Conference provides Toronto’s students an opportunity to interact with black professionals in varying fields of expertise. Each professional is asked to discuss topics relating to personal motivation, barriers, job satisfaction, compensation benefits and other relevant information.

As a valued member of our community, we invite you to be a professional workshop co-facilitator. A continental breakfast held at the Faculty Club will be provided in the morning followed by the workshops which will take place from 10 am - 12 p.m.  This position is pivotal to the success of the High School Conference. Professionals will be placed in small groups and ushered to their locations where they will proceed to lead the workshops. As the date of the conference approaches we will be sending out an itinerary as well as the workbook that will be issued to each student in order to prepare you for your leadership role. It is important that some brief preparation is done prior to professional workshop.

The High School Conference continues to be an important element in community outreach. With your support we hope to build on the success of past years and continue to provide mentorship and encouragement to the youth in our community. With your support and attendance, we believe we can enable these high school students to realize their full potential.

Please contact us to confirm your attendance or send your regrets by Friday, April 23, 2010.
